About Shasta:

I am a native of the Valley, having grown up in the Pinnacle Peak area of North Scottsdale. As a kid, I constantly redecorated my bedroom and helped my mom select furnishings for our home. I’ve always loved design and art, so I pursued an education in both. I have traveled extensively over the years, including a summer abroad in Paris with New York University and a teaching assistantship in London and Paris with the Savannah College of Art and Design. I worked as a curator at a museum, ran my own design consulting business and then joined Norwood Furniture in 2008.

What was your inspiration to pursue your furniture/design career?

I have always been drawn to beautiful things—art, furniture and architecture in particular. I love the emotional and psychological impact these things can have on us–the sunlight reflecting through the stained glass of an 800 year old cathedral, the secrets hidden in the smile of the Mona Lisa and the simple, yet well-intentioned lines of an Eames chair. Thoughtful design in our homes can make us feel safe, at ease and happy, which is something I enjoy helping my clients achieve.

What’s your favorite design tip?

Every room needs a balance of light, dark and mid tones alongside a mix of small, medium and large scale patterns to add interest and excitement.

How would you describe your personal design style?

My personal style is very eclectic—why commit to one style? I love mixing furniture styles, colors, textures and materials in a space. Color is my forte, although I’m equally comfortable working in neutrals.

What do you love most about helping people design and furnish their home?

I love putting my clients’ minds at ease so they can relax and enjoy the design process. My favorite thing is when the project comes to completion and the clients say it looks even better than they ever imagined.

What’s your favorite design project that you’ve worked on here at Norwood?

There have been many fantastic projects over the years. One of the most memorable projects was when a client brought me a hand-painted plate she bought in Italy and asked me to design her home around the colors of the plate. I love working with a piece that inspires the client. It serves as a great jumping off point!

Five Stars doesn’t seem like a high enough rating for the design direction, and quality furniture and professional delivery/set-up service provided by Norwood’s Furniture. We worked with Shasta on furnishings, rugs, mattresses and bedding for our new build home. She was extremely helpful, professional and responsive. We really relied on her design expertise. Erin worked with Shasta on our privacy blinds and drapery panels. Everything was delivered on time as scheduled and the delivery/set-up and install teams were efficient and careful of walls, door frames, etc. When they left every piece was in place and our home looked like a model! We are extremely happy with the results. We will always work with Shasta and Norwood’s for all future design and furniture needs.

“Spoke w Shasta yesterday about a toddler bed conversion kit. Came in today and Shasta was out but Kevin helped us. I was a bit nervous we would be getting a high-pressure sales pitch bc they had a reception desk to check in. Surprisingly, we had three people helping us as we selected a color and placed our order….but ZERO aggressive sales pitches. It was pleasant and we never felt any pressure to spend more than the $200 we intended for the one item we needed. I normally detest furniture shopping with a burning passion and a hate from the bottom of my soul……..but I needed to order this item for my daughter’s safety, so I sucked it up and went in.
