About Carol

As a child growing up in California, I enjoyed setting up my Barbie House more than playing with the dolls, and would change the layouts frequently. As a teenager, I began to draw out floor plans for my “dream home” with rooms of secret passages, turrets with book-filled shelves and comfortable furniture with cozy blankets.

During the busyness of being Mom to 7 children, the designing, building & furnishing of my own home also evolved into assisting various friends, family and referrals with their home design projects.

I also delved into the DIY realm and designed full custom cabinet layouts for kitchens & baths, learned wall-finish techniques, refinished furniture and brought light into spaces with unique lighting concepts.

What was your inspiration to pursue your furniture/design career?

After moving to Arizona, I was missing the creative outlet that design provides, coupled with the opportunity to interact with and help other people. Working here at Norwood fulfills both aspects while allowing me to work with a variety of design elements and home furnishings.

What is your favorite design tip?

I encourage my clients to first consider their own sense of style as opposed to only what’s on trend. This requires reflection on how they live and want to utilize their space, which sometimes encourages thinking outside the box!

How would you describe your personal style?

I like an ecletic mix and especially finding that special piece that adds interest and emphasis to a living space. I love adding pops of color in accessories or furnishings while creating an overall look that is warm and inviting.

What do you love most about helping people design and furnish their home?

I believe our homes are our sanctuaries to gather with family and friends or as a retreat from the pressures of daily life. Our environment affects how we think, how we feel and ultimately how we live. So it’s satisfying for me to help others create that special space for themsleves and their loved ones.

I really enjoy my client’s response when the project is finished and they love the result. It’s gratifying and humbling to me when they are so appreciative of what we have created together.

What is your favorite project that you’ve worked on here at Norwood?

My clients are truly the joy of my projects. From helping someone learn the workings of an adjustable-bed base to selecting the perfect piece of art for a formal living room, or transforming an unused dining room into an intimate conversation area, the fun of the process is helping each one successfully complete their design vision.
