House of Refuge has been changing lives since 1996, providing safe, stable housing for families experiencing homelessness. Todd Brundrett was thrilled to present a check to John Drake for $8,925. This money provided 44,625 meals for our Arizona residents who need a helping hand. St. Mary’s Food Bank was founded here in Phoenix, AZ, in 1967 by John van Hengel.
St. Mary’s was the first modern organization to operate using the food bank model, which spread throughout the US and the rest of the world!!
The Gilbert Elementary Art Education Program is a favorite here at Norwood. Each year hundreds of samples of these amazing young artists’ works are displayed all around the store. Thanks to the support of our art-enthusiast customers, Tom and Marj Brundrett were excited to present a check for $15,352 to Anne Schwaab to support this vital element of our kids’ education.

The Gilbert Public Schools Art Education Programs vision is to promote student artists to achieve the ability to develop and implement a visual idea. Their goal is to develop a grade-appropriate continuum of artistic behavioral expectations.
The elementary art education program provides instruction for kindergarten through 6th-grade students and utilizes an assortment of mediums and techniques including drawing, painting, clay/ceramics, 3D art, collage, fibers, and printmaking. Norwood’s Leadership Team presents a check of over $5,500 to Margy Bons, CEO of the Military Assistance Mission. Norwood made a special delivery of a sofa and rug to Gilbert Elementary School’s Calm Down Room. This room teaches children how to remove themselves from a stressful situation, identify their feelings when they enter the room, and use different tools to calm down and refocus before they return to class. The room is filled with different sensory toys, cocoon seats, a calming art center, mindfulness activities, tools to identify their feelings and try to figure out where these intense emotions are coming from (trauma at home or difficulty at school, etc.) and then give them a chance to refocus their energy and emotions so they can have a successful rest of their day at school.
Gilbert Elementary is one of the first schools in the area to create a Calm Down Room and Norwood was thrilled to be a part of such a wonderful project. Thank you for all you do for our local kids, Gilbert Elementary!

Norwood Furniture’s staff proudly presented a check of $7100 to Phoenix Children’s Hospital Foundation in April of 2018. Over the course of 3 months Norwood Furniture and our customers raised money to further PCHF’s mission to serve children and families in our community at Phoenix Children’s Hospital.
In 1983, Phoenix Children’s Hospital officially began serving the children and families of our community. Today they are one of the ten largest children’s hospitals in the country. Within 5 years, 1 in 4 Arizona children will have received care from a Phoenix Children’s Provider.
Norwood is excited to partner with such a wonderful organization that helps 135,000 patients each year.

Norwood Furniture presented a check to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital of Arizona totaling $7268.54 in May of 2017. Over 3 months Norwood Furniture and our customers raised money to further St. Jude’s mission to save the lives of children with cancer and other life-threatening diseases.
St Jude has helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20% to 80% and won’t stop until no child dies from Cancer.
